Happy Canada Day! We enjoyed some incredible celebrations yesterday at Town Centre Park, Castle Park, and Rocky Point Park!
In case you could not make it to 20 incredible minutes of fireworks accompanied by a very tasteful soundtrack, here’s a 90 second snippet I was able to grab. The magnificence of fireworks exploding almost directly overhead is not something that can be captured on film.
Here are a few things to do this weekend to celebrate our beautiful country!
Visit the Coquitlam Farmer’s Market! There will be lots of fresh vegetables and fruit, amazing prepared foods, baked goods and food trucks! Come hungry and check out Cheese Street Grill, Truly Authentic Taste of Malaysia and Rocky Point Ice Cream! We’re excited to be welcoming The Land of Deborah to market as our musician this week. Deborah is an award-winning musician whose “feel good folk-pop” style is a crowd favourite. Celebrate Canada this weekend at our kids’ craft table! Join us to make a patriotic wind sock full of red, white, and maple leafs! Check out our list of vendors attending the market this Sunday here!
Welcome to summer! Sure, it’s been around for a week or so, but it doesn’t really feel official until the July sun, Golden Spike Days and festive fireworks come to town. Different festivities for each day – check it out in person! Or visit their Facebook Page for some fun snippets.
Enjoy the summer with an afternoon performance in Leigh Square every Sunday at 2 pm. Music in the Park features the finest professional musicians from across Metro Vancouver playing a variety of genres including jazz, pop, rock, blues, folk, world fusion, and contemporary. Performers are selected through an open call each fall and chosen by a community selection committee. All ages welcome. Rain or shine. FREE.

We did a mini raffle for some housewarming gifts we had picked up from Rosemarie’s Treasures – our across-the-street neighbours! Congratulations to the winners.
Thank you to all who dropped by our little booth! Music was great, the dancing CIBC penguin was great, and the food was lovely. Thank you Pizza Hut, Pho Holiday, and the other food vendors that were there!

Another successful Awards Night with the Coquitlam Foundation! Léo was thrilled to sponsor awards to the outstanding youth in Coquitlam and our local community! Dozens of local organizations made it out as well – it was a great evening with some incredible music by local talent and Place des Arts.
Can’t wait until next year!

Who is the Coquitlam Foundation?
When your heart tells you it’s time to help people in your community, but your head doesn’t know where to turn, it’s time to look to the Coquitlam Foundation. We’re your hometown partner in philanthropy, helping you help your neighbours through charitable initiatives as simple as a one-time donation to our general fund or as profound as the establishment of an endowment fund. Look to the Coquitlam Foundation when you’re looking to help.
The event raised over $20,000 towards helping sick kids! Thank you community!
Miracle Weekend is the culmination of fundraising efforts throughout the year by literally hundreds of diverse groups. Events include everything from school fundraisers to golf tournaments to in-store customer campaigns. The hospital receives support from employee groups in financial services, retail, mining, technology, professional associations, construction and real estate, hospitality and restaurants, and others, and members of Children’s Hospital’s employee family. Annual events, such as Jeans DayTM, Slo-Pitch, RBC Run for the Kids, and the 98.5 The OCEAN (Victoria) radiothon contributed to the total.
Donations to Miracle Weekend are used to support the purchase of life-saving equipment, research into the treatment, prevention and cure of childhood diseases, recruitment and educational programs for caregivers, and programs in communities throughout the province. Miracle Weekend events have raised $280 million for the hospital since the first Miracle Weekend was held in 1988.
You can still donate! Click here.
Did you know that McHappy Day 2015 in the drive thru cash booth was where Léo and Jasmine first officially met?
Léo and Jasmine volunteered for a while down at the Austin McDonalds this May 4th, 2016, to help sell socks and collect donations for the Ronald McDonald House Charities, helping disadvantaged kids and families share the same great experiences as us.
Léo and Jasmine assisted the lovely ladies at the front counter in selling socks for donations, as well as helping out and learning about operations around the store, to keep even one of the busiest days of the year rolling forwards in terms of top notch customer service.
Thank you to Cory, James and the rest of the team at our local McDonalds for making such a great day happen!
Leo, Matt, and Olivia had a blast down at the Daffodil Dash at Rocky Point Park last week! It was a gorgeous day to get some much needed exercise, all the while, raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society.
We also got some socks in the process, to keep our feet toasty and warm during the frosty and grueling summer months!
$280 was raised by Team Léo towards cancer research, and about $6k in total for the whole event! Exercise, sunshine, community and SOCKS for a good cause – what could be better?
Did you know that it is Coquitlam’s 125th birthday this year?
We’ve always lived in a beautiful and welcoming city, but even more so this year with the ongoing festivities.
Family Fun Day is fast approaching! On May 28th from 10am to 1pm, drive just down the hill from our office to Place Maillardville and join the community in a free event promising sports, art, live entertainment, and food!
The event is free to attend – bring only your excitement, party hats, and let us celebrate our city’s birthday with the family.
Although we may not be there in person, we will be there in spirit! Enjoy the free popcorn – it’s on us.
We’re very fortunate to live in our amazing community.
We had a blast at the Coquitlam Express game on February 22nd. Thank you for being out there with us, supporting our local community team! We collected food donations for the SHARE Food Bank, and had the chance to meet Lui Passaglia! Amazing event, raised donations for a good cause – it’s thanks to you that these events are such a success.
Team Leo was happy to take part in the Ugly Sweater Dash, contributing as a sponsor and as run/walk participants. The team jumped at the chance to wear our ugly sweaters!
The Ugly Christmas Sweater movement is about basking in the hideous warmth of an ugly sweater, having fun doing good, and creating smiles. Working with The Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, the ugly sweater society raised money to fulfil a favourite wish for children diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses. Last year they raised $60,000 and created hope and happy memories for six children and their families.
